history
One of the direct precursors of this university used to be the Eastern Commercial Academy, established in 1899. First wholesalers from the capital city and elsewhere in Hungary, then industrial leaders as well as representatives of industrial and banking capital started to call rather early (from around the 1850s) for the training of professionals as a key to developing industry and trade.
The rapid growth of industry and trade necessitated trained economists, moreover state administration required professionals working in foreign affairs and foreign trade. It followed that a special college that would later become an economic faculty or a university needed to be set up. In fact, the Eastern Commercial Course was launched in 1891 and evolved into the Eastern Commercial Academy in 1899, an autonomous state college that trained graduate professionals for service in foreign trade, targeted mostly at the Balkans.

Corvinus University consist of two campuses:
- Közgáz Campus: The traditional Közgáz Campus of Corvinus University of Budapest is comprised of three main units: Buildings E, C and Sóház are in the direct vicinity of each other.
- Székesfehérvár Campus: Corvinus University of Budapest has been offering courses in Székesfehérvár, also in a dual course format since September 2016. Education is of the highest standard at the Székesfehérvár campus, similarly to that of Budapest.

Additionally, students who do not have a language certification can take an exam that is held by the university. This exam determines the level of fluency they have in English language. In order to be accepted to the university, students’ English exam result must be at least B2. Those who do not meet the language requirements, whether in their language certificate score or in the exam offered by the university, have the opportunity to take part in the preparatory program that helps the achieve the required level in English. During the course of the program, they can also be taught about Hungarian language to some extent.

Corvinus University consist of three dormitories:
- Kinizsi Dormitory
- Tarkaréti Dormitory
- Földes Ferenc Dormitory
Generally, the university’s dormitories can accommodate approximately 1100 individuals in rooms with 2-3 beds or, in some cases, with 4 or 5 beds. Some of the Services are : Computer Room, Study Room, Gym, Bicycle Storage Room, Washing Facilities, Cleaning Tools, WIFI connection.

Corvinus University strongly encourages students to take part in internships and part-time jobs during the course of their education. Its aim is not limited to encouragement; in fact, it provides students with the opportunity to benefit from career counseling and helps them look for job opportunities. Students even have the opportunity to take on internship positions in other countries upon graduation or during their break. They usually take from two months to a year and students are required to work for at least 30 hours a week.
