history
GLS was founded by entrepreneur Barbara Jaeschke in Göttingen, West Germany in 1983. Move to Berlin and re-opening of the GLS school in West Berlin, at first with 4 classrooms, later with 12 classrooms happened in 1996. Opening of the new school c/o GLS campus Berlin was in 2006. One of the 5 buildings on campus has been converted into a hotel, thus enabling GLS to offer students accommodation on campus. German courses take place in the mornings, and in the afternoons and on weekends the GLS Campus becomes a stage for international conferences & events.

The GLS German Language School in Berlin is the only language school in Germany with a 16.000 m² campus, including a historic swimming pool and the option to live on campus while learning German in Berlin. The park-like campus is a GREEN OASIS in the very center of Berlin, in über trendy Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. GLS has been voted Star School Germany i.e. best German language school in Germany 5 times.

Courses offered at The GLS German Language School:
The school has an extensive list of courses for students of many ages, all levels and various necessities. In addition to General German taught over several schedules and intensities, GLS Berlin also provides Exam Preparation (TELC, GOETHE, TestDaF), Business German, High School programmes in private boarding or day school, Immersive Junior summer programmes, University Pathway programmes and Intensive German with an internship.
Scholarships offered at The GLS German Language School:
GLS has an interesting scholarship program, and it is for students to upload a clip on YouTube at a certain time. In the clip, the student should speak in German about his opinion about famous German people and things that have caught his attention in Germany. The top three videos include a discount for a different amount of time (for example, two or four weeks).

GLS organizes German language courses for companies and institutions like Rolls Royce, Fendi and Amnesty International.
GLS is the Berlin school with the IH International House World Organization. The International House World Organization (IHWO) is one of the largest and oldest groups of language schools in the world. Founded in 1953, IHWO is a global network of over 150 affiliated private language schools in 52 countries, spanning every continent. All IH schools are independently owned and run.
IALC is an international association of quality language schools (more about IALC) and regularly inspects GLS. All GLS German courses are accredited by IALC.

Very convenient – the apartments are in the garden just behind the language school. You can book an apartment on campus all to yourself or share it with another GLS student of the same gender. key information and Facilities:

Student residence -Low Budget Studios in Berlin:
If you want to have an apartment all to yourself during your German course in Berlin, you have two options: one of the 50 apartments directly on the campus of the GLS language school or – cheaper – in a residence for students at Berlin universities.

Homestay & flat share with Berliners:
Ideal if you want to practice your German “at home”: You have a single room in a flat you share with Germans. Your hosts can be couples (married or not) as well as singles, with or without kids. They can be students, taxi drivers or professors, of all ages and social strata. All hosts have been inspected, and many have been hosting our students for several years. Living with German flat mates:

after graduation
Whether your school-leaving certificate entitles you for studying in Germany or whether you first need to fulfil additional requirements depends on which country you acquired your university entrance qualification, what type of school-leaving certificate you have and whether you have already completed a degree program overseas. Some countries’ school-leaving certificates are recognized by German universities, for other countries, certain minimum marks are required, for yet other countries, the university entrance qualification is not recognized in Germany, meaning that applicants need to enroll in a preparatory college, before they can begin their degree programs.
