history
Hampstead Fine Arts was established in 1978 as a College giving equal importance to the creative as well as academic arts subjects. They believe that excellence can be achieved in all areas through encouragement, a focus on a student’s talents and aspirations, and above all the education of the whole person. The achievements in the visual arts, music and drama are as exceptional as those of our academic subjects.
ABOUT
Studying at Hampstead Fine Arts College in the UK:
At Hampstead Fine Arts they have a distinctive educational philosophy that informs their approach to teaching and their cultivation of a welcoming, collaborative College. They believe this environment fosters the talents and ambitions of their students, preparing them well for higher education.
Their lessons challenge the students to engage in discussion and debate so that, far from being simply ‘taught’, students become inquiring critical thinkers and independent learners. They want to inspire a passion for learning that will last a lifetime and continue to enrich beyond formal exams.
Campus and facilities at Hampstead Fine Arts College in the UK:
The small size means that they know all our students as individuals, which is particularly important in encouraging and supporting them personally – moving away from the ‘us and them’ teacher-pupil relationships of their younger years. They closely monitor each student’s progress but they also encourage self-discipline and self-motivation:
The informal nature of relationships between staff and students strengthens high expectations and a rigorous approach to work.

Their belief is that, in order for our students to find and develop a particular talent or specialism – and make informed choices about their future studies – they must have a broad choice of study options as well as the freedom to explore their choices. after graduation
Virtually all students progress to higher education, either at university, art college, conservatoire, or drama school. Some will go on to become artists, film-makers, designers, writers, historians, presenters, and critics; others will take up completely unexpected occupations – some of which may not yet even exist.
Past students often report that their success at university or art college was, in large part, due to the independent and mature environment in which they developed at Fine Arts College. The avoidance of the ‘us against them’ atmosphere prevalent at many schools – in favour of a co-operative, self-motivated style of learning – prepares students well for their next steps in life.
In addition, the College offers each student detailed personal guidance so that students are able to make a considered choice about their future after A Levels. As part of this guidance, we help students make connections between their studies, their talents and possible future careers. Each student has a Personal Tutor who helps them begin the process of applying to higher education, providing advice on courses and institution choices as well as detailed help with drafting personal statements. This support is also available to former students after they have left the College, some of whom return to make an application after a gap year.
