history
Originally established in 1956, Zhengzhou University was restructured by the merger of three universities i.e., Zhengzhou University, Henan Medical University, and Zhengzhou University of Technology on July 10, 2000. The purpose of this re-establishment was to create a center of top-notch learning covering a huge range of academic disciplines, equipped with excellent research facilities so as to revolutionize higher education in Central China in general and Henan Province in particular. Since its re-establishment, Zhengzhou University has received more attention by the Chinese Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Henan Province in terms of governmental support, finances, inter institutional cooperation and research collaboration.

Studying at Zhengzhou University (ZZU) in China:
Zhengzhou University, colloquially known in Chinese as Zhèngdà and abbreviated as ZZU is a public university located in Zhengzhou, Henan, China. Zhengzhou University is the largest university in China in terms of number of students (around 73,000 students). The Campus size is the tenth largest in PR China with 433 hectares (1,070 acres).
Zhengzhou University was co-constructed by the Chinese Ministry of Education and the Government of Henan Province under the initiative of “One Province, One University”. It has been recognized for receipt of huge development spending given its potential to become a reputed seat of higher learning. ZZU was included in “Project 211” by the Chinese Ministry of Education which aimed at transforming promising universities into “Key National Universities”. The “Project 211” was later on replaced with a more ambitious and comprehensive initiative of tertiary education “Double First-Class University Plan” with an intent to develop elite Chinese universities and their disciplines as topmost institutions of the world by the end of 2050. ZZU is included in this project as well.
Zhengzhou University has been ranked among top 300 global universities by Academic Ranking of World Universities 2022, and 385th globally and 75th in Asia as of 2022 by the US News & World Report Best Global University Ranking.
Campus and facilities at Zhengzhou University (ZZU) in China:
Zhengzhou University now has four campuses covering 1070 acres land across Zhengzhou City. The main campus covers 799 acres of land on Science Avenue and Changchun Road in North-West section of Zhengzhou City. It is one of the most beautiful campuses in China with a construction cost of more than two billion Yuan. Majority of schools and faculties are located at main campus.
The east campus is the campus of previous Henan Medical University in the city center between Zhongyuan Road and Jianshe Road. The clinical stage of medical education is held on this campus. The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, with more than 10,000 sickbeds, is the largest hospital in the world.
The south campus is the campus of previous Zhengzhou University in the city center area of Daxue Road, while the north campus is the campus of previous Zhengzhou University of Technology in the city center of Wenhua Road.
- Library:
Zhengzhou University has 54 libraries! They fall into two broad categories: University Library (or UL) and School Libraries. Each School has a library which contains the standard texts needed for courses, along with other materials relating to more specialized collections of books, journals, periodicals and electronic resources for particular subjects.
- Computing & IT:
Your School and department, together with the University Network Support Centre, provide computing facilities to help you with your academic work. This includes a university email account, and access to central file storage for your work and for publishing web pages.
You can use your own computer, if you have one – most student rooms are connected to the University network and internet, and wireless hotspots are available throughout the University and Schools. However, you don’t have to have your own; all Schools and many departments provide networked PCs and Macs in their computer suites, with access to a range of general and specialist software, as well as printers and scanners.

You should note that the university is not strict about your language score and a general knowledge for the students is enough. So, there are MA\PHD programs accepting scores less than the mentioned ones.

Scholarships offered at Zhengzhou University (ZZU) in China:
There are a number of financial sources available in Zhengzhou University to support international students from all over world to study and research in Zhengzhou University. ZZU offers quite a number of full scholarship and partial scholarship. In year 2018, the full scholarship covers more than 58% of total full-time admission.
- SCHOLARSHIP FOR PROSPECT STUDENTS:
There are several types of financial source for prospect students with talents. Most of them are renewable full scholarship. Students can be fully supported or partially supported by the scholarship. Full scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, living allowance, and medical cares. The partial scholarship will cover major part if not all tuition of study.
- China Scholarship Council provides various Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) programs: 1. University Program (CGS-University); 2. General programs such as Bilateral Program, Great Wall Program, EU Program, AUN Program, PIF Program, and WMO Program (CGS-General). Most of the students are for master and doctor programs.
- Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) provide Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS) to students, scholars and Chinese language teachers of other countries for pursuing Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL), Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL), One-Academic-Year Chinese Study, and One-Semester Chinese Study in China. Each year more than 40 applicants will be sponsored by Confucius Institute Scholarship at ZZU. Most of them are students of one year language program and master programs.
- Henan Provincial Government established Henan Provincial Government Scholarship (HPGS) to support outstanding international students and scholars to study in all the programs offered by universities in Henan province. As a partial scholarship, it only covers major part of tuition. Most of the students are for bachelor program and non-degree programs. Only ten of them are students of master or doctor program.
- Zhengzhou University President Scholarship(PS (are specially set by Zhengzhou University to attract and support excellent international candidates to pursue their study in Zhengzhou University. Most of the students are for doctor program. Only several of them are students of other programs.

International Exchange Programs: Exchange Programs for Undergraduate Students for Dual Degree
The College has partnered a number of universities in Australia, the U.S., Europe and Asia for student exchange programs, including Monash University, University of Wollongong, Belarusian State Academy of Music, University of Lodz, Nagaoka University of Technology, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Platteville and Stout, and University of Duisburg-Essen.
Student exchange programs are available to all the undergraduates of International College. They can apply for further study at the partner university after one, two or three years of study at Zhengzhou University. Upon completion of all the courses required by both Zhengzhou University and the partner university, they can receive diploma and degrees from both sides, which can be accredited by Ministry of Education of China when they come back.
