history
Established in 1915, a bold vision was realized by the Sisters of Loretto — founding a university dedicated solely to educating women. Initially enrolling five students, the institution’s inaugural graduating class comprised merely two women. Presently, the main campus bears little resemblance to its original state over a century ago, and even to its rechristening as Webster University in 1983.
- 1919: The University welcomed its initial cohort of international students.
- 1939: A milestone was achieved as the first visually-impaired student graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.
- 1945: The institution introduced a groundbreaking program tailored for military veterans.
- 1950: Historical significance marked the graduation of the first Black student from the University.
- 1972: Webster University Kansas City commenced its inaugural metro location.
- 1999: The University embarked on a new frontier with the launch of its pioneering online programs.
Today, over 13,000 individuals worldwide are engaged with the University, upholding the legacy of the Sisters of Loretto in the pursuit of academic excellence, equality, and global citizenship.
