history

Tulane University, known officially as the Tulane University of Louisiana, is a prestigious research institution located in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Established in 1834 as the Medical College of Louisiana by a group of ambitious young medical doctors, it underwent a transformation in 1847 when the state legislature designated it as the University of Louisiana, encompassing a wide range of academic disciplines.

In a pivotal moment for the university’s history, Tulane University transitioned to a private institution in the late 19th century, thanks to the generous endowments from two philanthropists: Paul Tulane and Josephine Louise Newcomb. In 1884, Paul Tulane’s endowment played a significant role in enabling the university to become a private entity, while Josephine Louise Newcomb’s endowment further bolstered its growth in 1887.

accommodation

Tulane University strives to create intentional, comfortable, and supportive living communities that account for the needs of all students. We recognize that individuals may occasionally require specific housing accommodations to achieve the aforementioned objective.

As such, we have established a Special Housing Accommodation Committee, which represents a collaborative effort between Housing & Residence Life, Campus Health, Dining Services, and the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility. The Committee provides a student-focused process that allows individuals to receive consideration for special housing accommodations based on medical need and/or disability status.
