Founded in London in 1973 by three Cambridge University graduates, the MPW Group is one of the best known and well-respected independent college brands in the UK. It comprises three fifth- and sixth-form colleges in London, Birmingham and Cambridge, providing highly attractive and modern learning environments located in close proximity to prestigious university campuses.

Studying at the MPW College (Cambridge campus) in London:
MPW teaches 1,200 students on roll each year, of which approximately two thirds are British, one third international. An additional 1,500 mostly UK-based students enroll each year on Easter Revision courses. Quality assurance within the MPW Group is driven by a common governance model and a common set of principles and operational methods to which each college adheres.

MPW Cambridge is situated across two sites a short walk from each other in the heart of Cambridge. The main site, located on Brookside, is a four-Storey Victorian building. It houses bright and airy teaching rooms that accommodate class sizes ranging from one to nine students. Specialist teaching rooms include three science laboratories and an art room. The majority of classrooms have access to audio-visual facilities and interactive whiteboards, and all of them are equipped for screen-based learning. There is also Wi-Fi access throughout the building.
The Brookside building also accommodates two supervised study rooms containing reference textbooks and 15 computer workstations, an ICT suite and an Internet library that provide a further 16 computer workstations, plus a large exam room. MPW Cambridge is a registered center for all awarding bodies and all public examinations are sat on the premises. There is also a student common room at Brookside that is equipped with a further three computers for web browsing and has a cafe that serves drinks and homemade hot and cold food.
Language requirements for applying to the MPW College (Cambridge campus) in London:
All students whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate that they have a level of English that is appropriate for the courses they intend to study at MPW. Students will be assessed at the interview/application stage to determine if they will be required to take English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes alongside their A level or GCSE courses. The normal entrance requirement is an IELTS (or equivalent) score of 5.5 – 6.5, depending on the course you wish to follow.

Courses offered at the MPW College (Cambridge campus) in London:
Lessons are planned skillfully to build on what pupils and sixth-form students already know. Teachers go to great lengths to ensure that pupils remember important knowledge and skills before moving on to the next stage. They regularly check pupils’ learning. Teachers use this information to provide extra help so that any gaps in understanding are closed quickly. Staff plan exceptionally well for individual learning needs.
MPW Cambridge offers the following courses for full-time students:
- A level, studied over one or two years
- GCSE, studied over two years (or one year depending on individual circumstances)
- Retakes, for both A level and GCSE
- Transfers at the end of Year 12
For students at other schools and colleges, offers:
- Easter Revision, for both A level and GCSE
- Extra Tuition, 1:1 twilight, Saturday morning or holiday sessions for students at other schools
For the term-time courses, there is a guarantee of fewer than 10 students in each class. The small class sizes ensure that each student receives the individual attention he or she needs. The majority of the subject tutors are qualified to Masters or Doctorate level, and many are examiners for the A level and GCSE subjects that they teach.
Scholarships offered at the MPW College (Cambridge campus) in London:
- Academic scholarships: awarded to students who are able to demonstrate excellent general all round academic ability or outstanding ability in a particular subject area.
- Creative and performing arts scholarships: awarded to students who are able to demonstrate excellence in art, drama or music.
- The Woodward scholarship: named in honour of Robert Woodward, one of the founders of MPW, and awarded to a student studying English Literature as one of their subjects at A level.
Each year MPW sets a budget for academic awards based on anticipated fee income. The value of scholarships ranging between 15-40% of tuition fees, with the exception of the Woodward Scholarship which is up to a full fees award. Scholarships are typically valid for the entire duration of the program for which a student is enrolled.

The tuition fees at MPW depend on the number and level of the courses being studied. They do not have a fixed fee per year group and indeed some students combine courses across different year groups. The basic fee for full-time students is £11,411 per term at GCSE and £11,411 per term at A level.

In Birmingham and Cambridge, many students choose accommodation managed by Kensington Student Services (KSS), an independent company, wholly owned by the Mander Portman Woodward group.
KSS is a specialist accommodation agency, providing and arrange accommodation for international sixth-form students aged 16 years and over studying at MPW Birmingham and MPW Cambridge. KSS offer much more than just a room – its teams cultivate a sense of community and belonging, as well as helping students to develop life skills and transition to independent living.
