history
Linnaeus University was established in 2010 through a merger between Växjö University and University of Kalmar. Linnaeus University is located in Växjö and Kalmar and offers over 200-degree programs and 1500 single-subject courses. You can study different subjects within arts and humanities, health and life sciences, the social sciences, the natural sciences, technology, and business and economics. There are also a number of different contract educations, like the headmaster training and police education.

Studying at Linnaeus University in Sweden:
Linnaeus University is one of about 40 universities and university colleges in Sweden. At the national level, the Swedish Higher Education Authority is responsible for higher education and research. The duration and extent of programs and courses are expressed through the credit system used. One semester (20 weeks) of full-time studies corresponds to 30 credits or 30 ECTS/approximately 15 US semester credits. Single subject courses and modules are generally 7.5 credits each and usually run for five weeks. Full-time studies requires 40 hours of studies (including class time and own studies) per week.
Campus and facilities at Linnaeus University in Sweden:
The university has two campuses, in Växjö and in Kalmar.
- Växjö Campus:
It is unique in Sweden. It stands out by having everything gathered in one and the same place. The students find everything they need for their studies and their leisure time within walking distance. You will find lecture and seminar rooms, departments, faculties, the University Library, sports facilities, restaurants, cafés, gym, swimming places, a castle (!), hiking trails, nature and forest, recreation areas, pubs, student spaces, student apartments, and more.
- Kalmar Campus:
In Kalmar center, right next to the sea, you will find the university’s facilities that were inaugurated in August 2021. In Kalmar, everything is nearby, and you can take your bicycle to the university regardless of where you live in the city.
Language requirements for applying to Linnaeus University in Sweden:
You can demonstrate your English proficiency with an internationally recognized test. University admissions accepts a number of different tests, with minimum score requirements. The scores listed from left to right are for English 6 and English 7.

Courses offered at Linnaeus University in Sweden:
Linnaeus University offers a great selection of programs within many different areas of interest. Programs are divided into first-cycle programs, also referred to as bachelor’s programs, and second-cycle programs, also referred to as master’s programs.
Bachelor Courses are such as Finance II, Bayesian methods, CAE / Computer Aided Engineering. This university also has many courses in master’s level including Digital History, Climate Emergency Studies and Film as a Research Tool. It offers a great and varied selection of courses that can be studied in distance learning format as Physics, Master Program and Information Systems, Master Program. And finally, there are some courses that offered in PhD studies in Linnaeus University in Sweden.
Scholarships offered at Linnaeus University in Sweden:
Linnaeus University offers two different scholarship programs for the moment, Linnaeus University Scholarship and Linnaeus University Scholarship for Current Student.
- Linnaeus University Scholarship program: It is offered for students who study master programs. Students can only apply for this scholarship before commencing the program.
- Linnaeus University for Current Students: It is offered for students who are already enrolled in a two- or three-year lasting program at Linnaeus University. Students can only apply for this scholarship after commencing the program.

Linnaeus University’s international partnerships consist of exchange agreements, networks, projects, and consortium. Linnaeus University has formalized collaborations with higher education institutions in some 80 countries around the world such as New European Bauhaus, Southern African-Nordic Center (SANORD), International student recruitment and etc.

Please be aware that Linnaeus University does not own any housing. It has agreements with local housing companies allowing it to offer housing assistance for some of its students. It is unable to offer housing for families and spouses.
