history
Efforts to establish Sacramento State began in the 1920s but faced obstacles due to political reasons. It was officially founded in 1947, thanks to State Senator Earl D. Desmond’s determined efforts. In 1948, the college had sports teams, and 1949 saw the creation of the “Fight Hornet Fight” song, as well as the debut of the State Hornet newspaper and Statesman yearbook.
