The Master of Safety and Accident Investigation provides students with the necessary training on how to conduct safety-based research. At the end of the course they will receive an internationally recognized certification in accident research and will improve skills in accident verification or other areas related to the safety of the transport industry. Many students enroll in this field with the goal of obtaining a qualification in accident research or other related safety areas. Graduates can work in the military, safety regulation, government-sponsored research agencies, power plant and airframe producers, air traffic services and insurers. This course is made up of two modules and an individual project. The provided modules may be modified or canceled due to research advances, changes in rules or for various other reasons. The individual research project is the last step to complete the undergraduate Safety and Accident Investigation course in which each student is supervised by a faculty member. This project provides an opportunity for students to study problem area or a special topic using learned techniques, analytical and technical skills. During this project, students collect data, review literature and perform scientific analysis.
Compulsory modules:
- Fundamentals of Accident Investigation: the purpose of this module is to provide important skills and knowledge for conducting general research in the field of transport accident.
- Research Methods (MSc only): The purpose of this module is to provide industrial roles in the set of skills like safety and human factors.
Admission requirements of master degree in Safety and Accident Investigation:
The course offers three degrees: MSc, PgDip and PgCert. Students can enter the course to take any of these qualifications, which are held part-time. Successful completion of the MSc takes two to three years. Also, PgDip and PgCert take two years. To study the field, students need a first or second class UK honours (or equivalent) in a related subject-based discipline. Applicants without a UK honors degree but with relevant industry experience will be considered.

The School of Water, Energy and Environment, the School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing, and the School of Management are located on the Cranfield Campus, as well as many industrial-scale facilities for research.

Students admitted to a full-time course can apply for on-campus accommodation. They will also be able to find private housing off campus in nearby areas. Cranfield Campus has 1,466 single rooms, 75 studio apartments for couples, and 97 family homes including two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom houses. All dormitories have Wi-Fi internet connection. All students will benefit from Endsleigh insurance, which covers the risks that may occur while living in student accommodation.
