Studying PhD of multi-physics modeling and optimization of coating for structural composite battery at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom:
Lithium ion batteries have the highest volumetric and specific energy density which despite their advantages, have problems such as the need to dissipate the heat generated by electrochemical reactions, the weight penalty in electronic vehicles, and the risk of leakage due to the use of liquid electrolytes. What is used as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries are multifunction batteries which are produced by integrating electrodes and electrolyte in a structural carbon composite.
Upon admission, students will be based at the AVEC. The main focus of this center is on improving the performance of the vehicle and reducing the energy consumption of the manufacture and use of the vehicle. In addition, it offers a wide range of areas of expertise related to automotive engineering.
During this course, students will study solid-state electrolytes and mechanical and electrical numerical models of structural batteries, and will also be able to build a structural battery in addition to its demonstrator, and finally validate the multi-physical model of the deposition process and representative volume elements. Moreover, students will visit the company (Polestar brand producer) and participate in a seminar to learn about technologies in the design and manufacture of batteries and vehicles.
Students will also enjoy a professional, focused, and dynamic environment and become part of the Cranfield Doctoral Network. The network is made up of research staff and students and provides a platform for researchers to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment and share their ideas. The purpose of forming this network is to encourage a dynamic and effective research culture based on knowledge and diversity of activities. The transferable skills curriculum, along with a dedicated program of events and seminars, provides students with the opportunity to network and gain social opportunities.
Admission requirements of doctoral degree in multi-physics modeling and optimization of coating for structural composite battery:
Students are required to have a first or second class UK honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
The course offers a scholarship of up to £ 18,000 plus fees for three years. To be eligible for a scholarship, you should have one of the following: 1) UK citizenship, 2) Settled status, 3) Pre- settled status, and 4) Unlimited leave to stay or enter.
Language requirements of doctoral degree in multi-physics modeling and optimization of coating for structural composite battery:
To study the course, students must demonstrate their ability to communicate in English. They can apply for one of the Cranfield’s EAP courses, if they do not meet expectations of the English language arrival. The expiration date for the exams is only two years of the course start date. Combination of scores in two or more tests is not accepted, all elements of test results must be shown in one test. All test scores are checked with test providers. Applicants must have at least IELTS 7 (5.5 in all skill components), TOEFL IBT 100 (reading at least 18, listening at least 17, writing at least 17, speaking at least 20), Pearson PTE 68 (59 in all skill components), Cambridge Assessment English 190 (160 in all skill components), overall pass in Trinity College London, or overall pass in Language Cert (33 in all skill components).
