ABOUT

Studying PhD of Explainable Deep Sequential Network for Flexible Airport Passenger Flow Estimation at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom:

Today, we need to determine the Airport Passenger Flow (APF) because it is important in allocating resources and efficiently managing airport processes. Moreover, we use it to adapt to international air traffic, but due to the uncertainty and delays in flights, the temporal characteristic of the APF has many irregularities, so it is difficult to estimate and predict. On the other hand, issues that have led to limitations in accurate APF estimation include: 1) the inability to explain the APF estimation model, and 2) the inability to decipher the relationships between short-term and long-term APF patterns. During this course, we seek to develop a way to accurately estimate the APF through which to optimize airport resources and processes, and to integrate air traffic matters, with the ultimate goal of providing a better experience for passengers on their journey.

Once accepted, students will be based at DARTeC, a new research center focusing on future aviation topics. They will also be hosted by the Center for Autonomous and Cyber Physical Systems, one of the largest centers for postgraduate education in the world. Cranfield provides an opportunity for students to take advantage of its wide range of specialized research facilities. As a postgraduate university, Cranfield seeks to transform technology and management. It is the only university with a commercial airport, commercial pilots, controllers, and private aircraft. It is noteworthy that a digital tower was first installed and operated at Cranfield Airport in the United Kingdom.

This is an exciting research project that acquaints students with the latest technology developments. Students will have the opportunity to work with the industrial and academic professionals and prepare for an exciting career in industry or academia. They will also be able to publish their findings in high quality journals or present them at national and international conferences.

PhD students will enjoy a professional, focused, and dynamic environment and become part of the Cranfield Doctoral Network. The network is made up of research staff and students and provides a platform for researchers to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment and share their ideas. The purpose of forming this network is to encourage a dynamic and effective research culture based on knowledge and diversity of activities. The transferable skills curriculum, along with a dedicated program of events and seminars, provides students with the opportunity to network and gain social opportunities.
