Studying Pre-Sessional program at Abbey Group of Colleges (Cambridge Campus) in the UK:

Dependent on students’ level of language and academic abilities our Pre-Sessional Programme can be taught for one, two or three terms.

Pre-Sessional Programme is divided into three pathways; Pre-Sessional for GCSE Students, Pre-Sessional for A-Level students, and Pre-Sessional for International Foundation Programme Students.

Curriculum:

As well a strengthening students’ English language skills, they will prepare them to learn in a typical British classroom environment. This includes skill development in areas such as pair work, project work, independent reading, discussion work and team building.

Weekly Physical Education (PE) and Personal Health and Social Education (PHSE) also form part of the pre-sessional curriculum.

The full range of Abbey College Cambridge extra-curricular clubs and activities is open to you on the pre-sessional course, and pre-sessional students are positively encouraged to get involved with as many activities as possible.

Abbey College Cambridge Pre-Sessional Programme is designed to raise students’ abilities in general and subject-specific English and academic subjects to prepare them to join the GCSE, International Foundation Programme and A-Level courses.

Application Requirements:

 GCSE:
Students wishing to study on our GCSE programme, but whose English level is below IELTS 4.5 (or equivalent). Upon successful completion of the course, students will progress on to study on our 2 year, 18-month, or 1 year GCSE programmes.
A-Levels:
Students wishing to study on our A-Level programme, but whose English level is assessed to be below IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent). Upon successful completion of the course, students will progress on to study on our 2 year or 18-month A-Level programmes.
End of year subject tests adapted from IGCSE and A-Level materials to assess end of programme outcome.
International foundation program:
Students wishing to study on our International Foundation Programme, but whose English level is below IELTS 4.5 (or equivalent). Upon successful completion of the course, students will progress on to study on our 1 year International Foundation Programme.

English language requirements:

Weekly in class assessments to review and monitor performance.

The Careers program at Abbey Cambridge offers a high-quality, impartial and up-to-date program of information and guidance, including:

  • Speakers (ranging from professionals to former students) are invited to the College.
  • Attendance at careers fairs and conferences,
    Organization of variety of Careers-related activities themselves from their staff giving enrichment talks on careers in their specialist subject fields to hosting their annual UCAS Fair, where students use from Y11 onwards use Unifrog to look at careers opportunities and reflect on their own skills and aptitudes through the extensive personality tests available on the website.
  • Workshops on CV writing and interview techniques are provided, and through our exploration of work-related learning, students are helped to find work experience and placements at the end of Year 12 or take part in work shadowing activities provided by their partner InvestIN. This includes volunteering opportunities that students who participate in the Duke of Edinburgh pursue themselves to gain their silver or gold awards.
