Istanbul Okan University Architecture Doctorate Program is designed together with the Master’s Programs in Architecture with Thesis and Non-Thesis. Ph. D. Program in Architecture handle architectural problems from an integrated and environmentally sensitive urban design scale to a single building scale, where different disciplines come together. The theory and implementation for conservation of historical environments and buildings is one of the research areas of our programs. The theoretical background of design culture at different scales and its reflections in our cities are discussed and studies are carried out to understand and analyze. The aim of the program is to handle design technologies and production models with creative, critical and environmentalist thinking approach and to offer modern solutions.

Curriculum:
Program consists of a total 21-credit course load (8 courses) and a non-credit doctoral dissertation.
With the recommendation of the advisor and the approval of the Institute Administrative Board; students can take 2 courses from Istanbul Okan University graduate programs. In order to begin the Doctoral Thesis studies, the Proficiency Exam and Thesis Proposal stages must be successfully completed. In order to defend the Doctoral Thesis in front of the Jury, the thesis monitoring stages must be completed successfully and at least one refereed paper and / or article publishing requirement produced from the Doctoral Thesis Subject must be fulfilled.

Applications to the Doctorate Program with a Master’s Degree

Students who do not have ALES score can be admitted as special students, provided that they get the required score when entering the first ALES exam in the next semester. Candidates are required to have received a grade of 55 or equivalent in YDS and similar national and international exams during admission. Accepted applications can be examined in detail by the Program Steering Committee and candidates can be allowed to follow the main program provided that they successfully complete the courses in a “Scientific Preparation Program” if necessary.
English Language requirement:
All students have to prove their proficiency in English before they can start the first year of their academic program. International students who are unable to submit the required English language test scores during their application can take the Istanbul Okan University English Proficiency Test upon arrival. Students who fail the test will attend Istanbul Okan University Intensive English Program for one year. This year is not included in the total number of years required for graduation.

The students at Okan University in Turkey can use the student Residence Halls on the main campus with four-person, double, or single rooms. Also, these accommodations and dormitories are fully equipped with TV rooms and medical centers. Moreover, the students will have three meals per day in the restaurant of the accommodation center.
If the students do not want to live in the university residence halls or dormitories inside the campus, they can find an apartment in Istanbul according to their budget and situation and live with a roommate or alone while studying in this country.
After Graduation
International students must refer to their student visas to see whether they are eligible to work in this country while studying or not. Furthermore, the graduates from Okan University in Turkey can use the help of a career center and find a full-time or part-time related and suitable job in Turkey or the global job market.
Also, this center will help them find placements or internships to gain enough knowledge, skills, and experience to become familiar with workplaces. On the other hand, the faculty of engineering will offer the CO-OP programs in three semesters with an obligation of 40 working days per semester and 120 working days in total. Furthermore, the economics students will have this program in 14 weeks.
