Studying Master in Strategy and Leadership at Stavanger university in Norway:
The specialisation in strategy and leadership provides you with knowledge of leadership, strategy, sustainability and technology and enables you to take part in the pressing challenges for professional organisations.
All organizations are expected to be sustainable, they have to develop and sometimes transform due to changes in the world economy. They have to cooperate and form partnerships with other organizations to meet new demands, while they care for a number of different stakeholders.
Digital technology provides a lot of business opportunities, and the claim is that all businesses need to digitalize or die. Technology enables new business models, new products and services, and new jobs are created. However, jobs are also destroyed, businesses and industries are disrupted, some win, others lose. There are many threats associated with the introduction of new technology.
Necessary information:

Curriculum:
Semester 1
consists of three courses. One course is unique for the strategy and leadership students, while two of the courses are taken by all the first-year students at the UiS Business School.

Semester 2
This semester, you have three compulsory courses:
- MSB104 Research Methods
- MSB203 Leadership and Organizational Change
- MSB204 Information Management and Digitalization
Semester 3
In your third semester, you can choose to be an exchange student at one of our international partner universities, decide among a wide range of elective courses offered at the University of Stavanger Business School, and/or combine your specialization with an internship.
Alternative 1: Semester abroad as an exchange student

Alternative 2: Semester at the University of Stavanger
The semester at the University of Stavanger consists of elective courses equivalent to 30 ECTS. Choose elective courses either from the strategy and leadership specialisation or electives from other specialisation profiles.
You are required to take at least 10ECTS outside strategy and leadership during 3rd semester.

- MSB260 Competitive Strategy
Semester 4
This semester is all about writing the master’s thesis. Use all the knowledge and skills you obtained throughout the program, tackle an important question that you feel passionate about.
- MSBMAS Master thesis (30 ECTS)
Application Requirements:
- An undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree with a minimum study duration of 3 years
- Relevant bachelor’s degree and academic requirements to the study programme
- Minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C in your bachelor’s degree
A Norwegian C is equivalent to an Upper Second-Class Honours degree in the British education system, or a B in the American education system.

All students admitted to degree studies or exchange programmes at the University of Stavanger can apply for student housing through SiS Housing. The rental price is NOK 3,200–5,300 per month per person. The rooms are modestly furnished with a bed, desk, and closet. However, no dishes, cooking utensils, duvet, pillow or towels are available in the accommodations. You have to bring your own or purchase the items upon arrival. Electricity and broadband internet connection are included. You may need to buy your own Wi-Fi router.
General information for international students:
- International students will be given a housing application code upon registration of study application. You should use this given code to apply for student housing. This code should be used by international students who are arriving in Norway for the first time ONLY.
- Due to the precarious housing situation in Stavanger, UiS does not guarantee accommodation for all international students.
- You will receive only one housing offer and if you reject it, you have to make your own arrangements.
- Contracts cover usually one or two full semesters, and full semesters only (five months*).
- There are no family apartments available for international students with children. Only single room apartments are available for international students.
- International students cannot change their room with another person in the dorms, nor change dorms without the approval of SiS Housing.
- It is not possible to terminate the contract with SiS Housing during the first 5 months of the contract.
