The master programme in Industrial Asset Management brings a modern twist to engineering education. Through this master’s degree, students will acquire modern multi-disciplinary expertise that is much in demand for various industrial sectors today.

This programme levels up your engineering education (mechanical, structural, electrical, civil, process, petroleum, energy, etc.) with practical knowledge about modern industrial assets, relevant standards & regulations and systems (i.e. production plants, process facilities, energy production and distribution systems, machines and equipment, infrastructure and civil structures, etc), digitalized and integrated operations, modern industrial maintenance, enabling technologies of Industry 4.0, relevant standards & regulations, and industrial decision making and performance management.

Curriculum:

The focus of the study programme is to enable graduating students to obtain competitive competence on a Master’s degree level in technology and to develop knowledge and qualifications related to modern, digital, advanced, and complex industrial facilities/engineering systems in industrial and public organizations. They will be able to apply the knowledge obtained in challenging industrial environments in all life cycle phases of complex engineering assets and systems, (i.e. concept, design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, modification. Life extension and decommissioning or reuse).

Career opportunity:

The programme qualifies the graduates for a broad range of positions in private industry and public organizations. Since the core of the master programme consists of commonly usable principles and methods, graduate students can qualify for many attractive job positions in both the Land-based and offshore industries.

In general, the graduates will be well qualified for positions within various sectors inclusive of facility/plant owners or operators, service and technology providers, engineering contractors, consultants, authorities, as well as public institutions who are involved in designing, building, operating, removing, and/or recycling of advanced and complex engineering facilities and systems. This can include, for instance, energy production and distribution, manufacturing, infrastructure, offshore systems and platforms, processing facilities, and a wide variety of other engineering and service industries.

Many will also have interesting job opportunities within research, education, or in the public sector devoted to control, regulation, and law enforcement of industrial sectors.

Moreover, a completed master’s degree with a minimum average grade of B for courses and a grade of A or B for Master thesis may qualify for admission to an engineering/technical PhD programme at the University of Stavanger.

 

Application Requirements:

  • An undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree with a minimum study duration of 3 years
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree and academic requirements to the study programme
  • Minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C in your bachelor’s degree
  • A bachelor´s degree in any engineering discipline is required.It may be an advantage if the applicant:
    – Has taken subjects related to engineering, technical and operational aspects of engineering facilities/systems and processes in the bachelor’s degree.
    – Has relevant technical and operational industrial experience related to engineering systems and processes.
  • All applicants must have at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematics/statistics/calculus.

A Norwegian C is equivalent to an Upper Second-Class Honours degree in the British education system, or a B in the American education system.

All students admitted to degree studies or exchange programmes at the University of Stavanger can apply for student housing through SiS Housing. The rental price is NOK 3,200–5,300 per month per person. The rooms are modestly furnished with a bed, desk, and closet. However, no dishes, cooking utensils, duvet, pillow or towels are available in the accommodations. You have to bring your own or purchase the items upon arrival. Electricity and broadband internet connection are included. You may need to buy your own Wi-Fi router.

General information for international students:

  • International students will be given a housing application code upon registration of study application. You should use this given code to apply for student housing. This code should be used by international students who are arriving in Norway for the first time ONLY.
  • Due to the precarious housing situation in Stavanger, UiS does not guarantee accommodation for all international students.
  • You will receive only one housing offer and if you reject it, you have to make your own arrangements.
  • Contracts cover usually one or two full semesters, and full semesters only (five months*).
  • There are no family apartments available for international students with children. Only single room apartments are available for international students.
  • International students cannot change their room with another person in the dorms, nor change dorms without the approval of SiS Housing.
  • It is not possible to terminate the contract with SiS Housing during the first 5 months of the contract.
