Curriculum:
This program will ensure that students become experts in the field of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering and Protection engineering. The first year is almost entirely devoted to expanding one’s knowledge of the field. The second-year focuses on deepening the understanding of the field and the topic for the dissertation is chosen and the associated research plan is written. In the third year, students will finish their dissertations and after defending, they will be awarded the title of Master of Engineering.

Application Requirements:
- General Requirements
(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health and possess a valid foreign passport;
(2) Have a degree equivalent to a master’s degree in China.
- Language Proficiency Requirements
Chinese-taught Programs:
(1) HSK Level 5 (180 points or above).
(2) The only exemption from the Chinese proficiency test requirement is for applicants who have obtained their highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is Chinese. The official proof must be submitted.
English-taught Programs:
(1) Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from providing English language certification.
(2) Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of the IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above, SDU’s DI code: C296), MyBest Scores (80 points or above) and Essentials test (8 points or above), or other equivalent certificates of English proficiency.
(3) Applicants whose native language is not English and who have obtained their highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is English, do not need to provide certificates of English proficiency such as IELTS/TOEFL scores but must submit a letter of proof.
Application Documents:
- The biographic page of the applicant’s passport (personal ordinary passport must be valid until at least October 31st, 2023).
- Undergraduate graduation/degree certificate and master’s graduation/degree certificate or pre-graduation certificate (with the official seal of the school).
Note: Applicants who apply using a pre-graduation certification must state their expected graduation time and must obtain a graduation certificate before enrolling in September 2023.
- Transcripts of all undergraduate and master courses (must be stamped with the official seal of the school).
- Two recommendation letters from a professor(s) or associate professor(s) related to the applied major (or equivalent professionals with relevant academic title).
Referrer’s name (signature), title, institution, phone number and email address are required on the recommendation letters.
- A letter of motivation in Chinese or English.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
- Certificate of No Criminal Conviction.

Shandong University is committed to creating a safe and well-maintained environment that promotes community values and fosters comfort. In Jinan, international student apartments are in three of the six campuses. In Qingdao campus the university also provides international students with suitable accommodations. Each apartment is nicely furnished and equipped with a heating and air conditioning unit and other needed utilities.
Admitted students who have received their admission notice and are interested in living on-campus must apply first. The earliest date to move-in is three days before the registration date stated on your admission notice; otherwise, the university will not accommodate your early arrival.
All international students should pay a deposit fee of 600 RMB for the accommodation when checking-in. The student will get this fee returned when leaving the room without damaging it. The monthly accommodation fee may depend on the campus and dorm type. On-campus internet is free.
After Graduation
At present, Shandong University has about one hundred local alumni organizations, serving more than three hundred thousand alumni at home and abroad. For those who wish to stay in China after study:
- A passport application can take a long time so it should be done well in advance. You can consult your country’s embassy or consulate for more information.
- After collecting a new passport, students need to register at police station and apply for a change of visa/residence permit from school as soon as possible.
The school will help you to submit the documents to the office of the Department of International Affairs. After the approval of the university, you need to go to the Exit & Entry Administration Bureau of Jinan Public Security Bureau with relevant documents.
