ABOUT
Studying master’s in Gynecology and Obstetrics at Nanjing Medical University in China:
Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
Postgraduate training programs for both fields are usually combined, preparing the practicing obstetrician-gynecologist to be adept both at the care of female reproductive organs’ health and at the management of pregnancy, although many doctors go on to develop subspecialty interests in one field or the other.

- Family Planning: This course focuses on contraception methods (both hormonal and non-hormonal), sterilization techniques (such as tubal ligation or vasectomy), abortion procedures (medical or surgical), counseling patients about family planning options, and ethical considerations.
- Operative Obstetrics: Students learn about normal labor progression as well as complications during childbirth like fetal distress or shoulder dystocia. They also gain skills in performing vaginal deliveries or assisting in cesarean sections.
- Gynecologic Surgery: This course covers various gynecological surgical procedures, including laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, hysterectomy, myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids), and surgical management of ectopic pregnancies.
- Reproductive Medicine and Infertility: Students study the evaluation and treatment of infertility, assisted reproductive technologies (such as in vitro fertilization), fertility preservation techniques, and ethical considerations related to reproductive medicine.
