Studying in pre-engineering program at University of Richmond in the USA:
Students who ultimately want to pursue a degree in engineering but who would like the benefit of Richmond’s liberal arts experience can take advantage of the University’s Pre-Engineering Advising. Although the University of Richmond does not offer an engineering major, many Richmond students successfully continue into engineering after their time at Richmond through either the dual degree program with Columbia or graduate studies in engineering.

Curriculum:
The University of Richmond offers opportunities for students to build a solid foundation in mathematics and science, as well as acquire skills in logical thinking and reasoning, communication, problem-solving and flexible thinking.
With these skills, students can choose to apply to the 3-2 (or 4-2) dual-degree program with Columbia or pursue graduate education in engineering.
Career opportunity:
The dual-degree program leads to a bachelor’s degree from Richmond in a field of your choosing as well as a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Columbia University.
If the dual-degree program does not match your interest, another common route to an engineering career is to complete a B.S. degree at the University of Richmond and then attend graduate school for a master’s degree or doctorate in engineering. Our experience is that engineering graduate programs are excited to accept Richmond students with strong records in math and science.
