history

Founded on the idea of empowering people to succeed in a digital world, IU International University of Applied Sciences first came into existence in 1998. And since receiving accreditation from the German Council of Science and Humanities, IU’s grown into Germany’s biggest university.
It was founded in 1998 and brings together three forms of higher education under one organisation. These three branches are IU School of Business and Management, IU Dual Studies, and IU Distance Learning.

Studying at IU International University of Applied Sciences

IU International University of Applied Sciences is a private, state-recognised university of business and management in Germany. It was founded in the city of Bad Honnef but has now expanded to have campuses in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt am Main, Dusseldorf, Bremen, Bad Honnef, Bad Reichenhall and Erfurt.

The School of Business and Management offers bachelor’s, master’s, and MBAs in international management, marketing management, hospitality management, event management, aviation management, transport and logistics, and international business.

IU Dual Studies allow students to complete a practice-oriented dual study programme. Courses are offered in healthcare, human resources, industry and logistics, marketing, real estate, tax and auditing and tourism.

IU Distance Learning offers over 150 certificate programmes with flexible learning models. Exams can be taken at over 30 test centers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland or at 150 international testing centers.

All courses are taught in English in order for students to learn important specialized vocabulary improve English language skills.

Students are able to live and study with international students on campus. The university also provides internships or semesters abroad for students to be able to spend some time studying abroad. The university has partnerships with universities in North and South America, Asia Australia and Europe. There is also an internship integrated into the Bachelor degree programmes which students are able to do abroad.

the Bad-Honnef campus is located a short distance from beautiful Cologne, at the heart of Germany’s NRW region. The campus offers several food and drinks options, from snacks to fine dining, so you can relax between courses or long study sessions.

 

Language requirements for applying to IU International University of Applied Sciences

Depending on your personal circumstances, you might be required to provide proof of your English language proficiency. Your skills would need to match the B2 level of the Common European Framework (CEF).

IU accepts the following English language skills certificates*:

  • TOEFL (minimum 80 points)* or
  • IELTS (minimum Level 6)* or
  • Duolingo English Test (minimum 95 points)* or
  • Cambridge Certificate (minimum Grade B)*

 

Courses offered at IU International University of Applied Sciences

At IU International University of Applied Sciences, you can either study 100% online or on-campus at one of the locations in Germany. IU offers full flexibility and the option of studying either full-time or part-time – whatever best suits the students and their goals. Offering Degree courses at Bachelor’s, Master’s and MBA degree levels combining more than 200 Study Programmes.

the Bachelor programmes with focus on information technology open up a diverse selection of career opportunities for future IT professionals.

Master and MBA programmes offer business and non-business graduates, such as engineers, natural sciences and humanities graduates, the opportunity to extend their managerial skills and focuses on updating and increasing your general managerial knowledge.

 

Scholarships offered at IU International University of Applied Sciences

At IU, there is a total of four scholarships every month to people with particularly inspiring backgrounds. In addition, there are many other support measures available for the students, which can be used to help finance the monthly tuition fees.

Iu Scholarship – For Special People With Special Goals: Every month IU awards a total of four 50% scholarships to selected individuals who are not yet enrolled at IU International University of Applied Sciences. With the IU scholarship, IU  primarily support people with disabilities, women in tech, single parents or new beginners who want to follow their very own educational path

Deutschlandstipendium – For Particularly Gifted Students: If you would like to receive financial support for your first degree, second degree, supplementary degree or Master’s degree, the best thing to do is apply for a Deutschlandstipendium from the federal government. In this way, you can secure a welcome relief of 300 euros per month.

In addition to the IU scholarship and the federal government’s Deutschlandstipendium, there are also numerous other scholarship programmes provided by non-profit foundations. Depending on the scholarship, the amount of financial support varies from 597 euros per month to 7,200 for your entire degree at IU.

IU International University of Applied Sciences partnerships:

With over 20 years of expertise, all IU programmes have been officially accredited by the German Accreditation Council. This certification attests to the fact that study programmes adhere to the most recent academic standards and are designed by qualified professionals. Since IU is system accredited, IU can independently accredit new programmes — in compliance with legally specified quality criteria – and adapt to market demands without sacrificing quality. IU is reaccredited for five years by the German Council of Science and Humanities in 2021. IU is a member of the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), which honours organisations that have proven to be highly compliant with a set of European quality assurance conventions.

IU is recognized by WES Canada, a trusted non-profit providing education credential assessments (ECA) that are officially accepted by academic institutions, government bodies and employers throughout Canada. As an IU graduate, you’ll be able to work or study in Canada as your degree can be converted into points according to Canadian academic standards in the Canadian Immigration Point System.

For students attending a semester or more at Bad Honnef campus, IU International University of Applied Sciences offers the possibility of accommodation. You can rent a student room in a shared flat, in one of the six blocks of modern flats, either directly on campus or just a short walk away.
In the student flats you’ll have:
• A fully equipped kitchen
• A balcony or a terrace
• Cable TV and radio connection
• Wi-Fi
Your room comes furnished with:
• A bed, a mattress and a wardrobe
• A desk with a chair
• Shelves, an armchair and a small side table
• A curtain rod and curtains
In the blocks, outside of your room, you’ll also have:
• A laundry and drying room
• Bicycle storage (right outside the block)
• Parking spaces (across campus. These can be reserved for a monthly fee*)
Monthly costs of student room rental:
• Room in a 3-person flat: 400€ – 460€
• Room in a 2-person flat: 460€
These prices include water, heating, electricity, internet and other additional costs. Additional charges:
• A one-time wear and tear fee of 195€. This includes a complete set of new bedding (pillows, blankets and sheets). If you do not require this, you can return it and receive a refund of 45€.
• Security deposit: one month’s rent.

For students attending a semester or more in Berlin, IU do not offer on-campus accommodation options, but the international office can help you find a room in a shared apartment in the city.
With a large number of students from around the world, and truly multi-cultural surroundings, living in Berlin in a shared apartment is a great way to get to know the city and develop your international network.
