You will study (the number depending on your credit requirements):
- Dissertation (30 credits)
- History and Theory of Urban Planning (30 credits) – A look at some of the main ideas and theories that have shaped urban and rural spatial planning, focusing on the post-world war two era. Against this background, we critically examine the fundamental justification and purposes of town planning.
- Implementation and Design Quality (30 credits) – This gives you a practical and theoretical understanding of approaches to managing development through the mechanisms and system of planning. You will also develop an understanding of the analytical skills needed to make your decisions ‘outcome-focused’.
- Plan Making (30 credits) – An introduction to the core skills in conceiving, developing and writing plans for a range of spatial scales in a range of sectors.

Please also note this structure is for the full-time course delivery only. For part-time delivery, the same modules will be studied. However, the structure will differ.

Study time
If you study full-time, you will attend classes for two consecutive days a week, with tutoring, reading and cross-department lectures on top. This means you should expect and plan to be occupied with your studies for a full week.
If you study part-time, you will attend classes for one day a week over two years, effectively combining work with study. The course is flexible and you can switch your study mode if your circumstances or commitments change.
Full and part-time students attend a two-day induction session at the start of the course and spend the summer term working on their dissertations.

Entry requirements
We normally require an honours degree of 2.2 or above. This course is suitable for graduates of degrees from any academic background, particularly social sciences, geography and planning.
We can consider applicants who do not meet the normal entry requirements, but who do have relevant professional experience or qualifications. In your application, you should describe your professional experience and qualifications in detail.
English Language Requirement
International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component
Deadlines: for 2022
- Thursday 19 May – If you applied by 26 January and you are still waiting, universities will decide whether they are making an offer by today (otherwise UCAS will reject the application on their behalf). You will then be given a deadline by UCAS to make your decision.

Thursday 9 June – If you receive all your uni/college decisions by 19 May, you must reply to any offers by today (except if you are using Extra to find a place), otherwise they’ll be declined.

Thursday 30 June – This is the last day you can apply to university for 2022 entry before Clearing begins. If you send your first application (not UCAS Extra) to UCAS by 18:00, they’ll send it to your chosen university.
- Monday 4 July – Last date to apply in UCAS Extra.
- Tuesday 5 July – Clearing opens for applications if you already have your results.
- Thursday 14 July – If you applied by 30 June and you’re still awaiting a decision from any of your choices, universities have until 14 July to decide whether they’re making you an offer (including Extra choices).
- Thursday 18 August – A-level results day. Fingers crossed you got the grades you’re hoping for. If not, don’t panic – there are options including Clearing. We will confirm our decision by email.
- Once your place is confirmed and you have completed all admissions requirements you’ll receive your username so you can register online.

After Graduation
Most the international students desire to work while studying in the UK to pay for their study and living expenses in this country and gain more business and living skills and experience, however, the international students must refer to their visas to find out whether they are allowed to work in the UK or not, overall, the students who hold a tire four visa can have a part-time job while studying in the UK for up to 10 or 20 hours per week, on the other hand, if the students’ visas say (no work or work prohibited), they cannot look for a job in this country and must simply focus on their studies, moreover, their careers must not be self-employed, sports coach, entertainer, full-time job, dentist, or doctors.
