ABOUT
Introduction
Through the wide range of LLMs we offer, we are attracting the next generation of leading practitioners and academics to study specialised law with us.
Part of our comprehensive range of LLM programmes, the LLM in Environmental Law and Sustainable Development allows you to deepen your understanding of law relating to the environment and associated development issues.
You will engage with the legal and ethical challenges posed by sustainable development, and explore global environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity protection, water management and renewable energy, from the perspective of both developed and developing countries. By encouraging innovation in assessing current environmental problems, the course will prepare you to work in legal practice, whether you choose to go into a commercial organisation, the public sector or a non-governmental organisation.

Year one

Option modules
You’ll study five of the modules from this list, or four of them plus one option module from any of our other LLM courses.

Dissertation (60 credits)
You’ll need to write a 15,000 word dissertation. This needs to be an original piece of work. You can satisfy this requirement by:
- carrying out empirical work that has not been done before
- synthesising issues not put together before
- looking at topics that people in the discipline have not looked at before
- examining existing knowledge in an original way, or
- bringing new evidence to bear on an old issue.
You don’t need to meet all of these criteria. Your dissertation topic must broadly relate to your LLM award.
This structure is for full-time students only. Part-time students study the same modules but the delivery pattern will be different.

Entry
Entry requirements
You should have:
- An honours degree of 2:2 or above in Law; or
- An honours degree of 2:2 or above plus a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) or the Common Professional Examination (CPE); or
- An honours degree of 2:2 or above in a related subject (such as business, politics or international relations) and/or relevant experience: please give full details in your application.
Applicants who do not mee the above requirements, but have relevant work experience and/or can demonstrate appropriate subject knowledge are still encourage to apply, however they might be invited to an interview to assess suitability for the course.
If English is not your first language, you will also need to demonstrate your English Language proficiency. You should have:
- IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in all components

After Graduation
Most the international students desire to work while studying in the UK to pay for their study and living expenses in this country and gain more business and living skills and experience, however, the international students must refer to their visas to find out whether they are allowed to work in the UK or not, overall, the students who hold a tire four visa can have a part-time job while studying in the UK for up to 10 or 20 hours per week, on the other hand, if the students’ visas say (no work or work prohibited), they cannot look for a job in this country and must simply focus on their studies, moreover, their careers must not be self-employed, sports coach, entertainer, full-time job, dentist, or doctors.
