ABOUT
What you will study
Our fully accredited MSc will help you acquire advanced capabilities and in-depth knowledge across a range of civil engineering disciplines, including structural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering and water/environmental engineering. This allows you to tailor your masters according to your aspirations.
This course offers six study streams:
- Bridge engineering
- Construction management
- Geotechnical engineering
- Structural engineering
- Sustainability and resilience engineering
- Water/environmental engineering and infrastructure management.
If you’re an engineer working in the construction industry and you hold a related degree, such as engineering geology or construction management, this course will provide you with the opportunity to expand on your existing knowledge and skills.
It’s also designed to update the technical skills of practising engineers engaged in the planning, design, construction and operation of civil engineering works.
Distance learning
Surrey is one of the only universities in the UK to offer MSc courses in civil and environmental engineering via distance learning. This flexible option allows you to study for our distinctive, accredited programme from anywhere in the world, without the need to relocate or give up your existing job.
As a distance learner, you’ll study eight modules and complete a dissertation in your chosen subject (like full-time and part-time students), but you can take up to five years to complete your masters. You’ll be able to access all module materials through our virtual learning environment, SurreyLearn, and arrange to take end-of-module exams at a local university.
