Sports Massage Level 3 (Active IQ)

About the course

This qualification gives you the skills and confidence to provide sports massage treatments within a clinic setting or set up on your own as a freelance therapist. Throughout the intensive course you will learn how to:

• Complete an assessment of the client’s needs
• Learn a range of massage techniques
• How these techniques can be applied in a range of scenarios including pre-event, inter-event and post-event

This course is run over eight days, on the following dates:

• Tuesday 1 June – Friday 4 June and Monday 7 June – Tuesday 8 June 2021

There will be six days of face to face contact and two days of online learning that needs to be completed prior to attending the practical days. The course is geared specifically to those on health-related degrees and as such, there is a degree of assumed knowledge (in areas such as anatomy and physiology). This allows us to focus on the more applied aspects of the course; assessing clients and providing treatments. Throughout the course you will complete a series of short-answer worksheets, sit a multiple choice anatomy test, and be observed providing massage treatments. Upon successful completion of the course, further progression onto the Level 4 course is available, where you examine a range of sports injuries and the role of massage in their treatment. Students are strongly advised to refresh their knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology prior to attending the course, particularly the origins and insertions of muscles.

Teaching methods

Learning and teaching methods will include group and individual work, as well as supervised work, problem-based work, work-related learning, and workshops.
