The following UK registered healthcare professionals are eligible to train to undertake the role of cervical sample taker:

registered nurses
registered nursing associates
registered midwives
physician associates who are registered on the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR)
registered healthcare professionals working in integrated sexual health (ISH) clinics
General Medical Council (GMC) registered medical doctors

You must hold current registration with a professional body to undertake this course. You must also be working in an area where the is an experience cervical sample taker to be your mentor. Course Overview

The aim of this two-day course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the principles and practice of cervical cancer screening. The course covers the following topics:

The incidence and prevalence of cervical cancer in the UK and locally.
The risk factors associated with cervical cancer and how these may be minimised or managed.
The role of audit and other quality assurance measures in cervical screening and its improvement in women’s health

The first day of this course will be delivered on-line (zoom). Day 2 will be a practical, and the group will be divided into two for your safety. You will be advised nearer the time which day you should attend the practical.

Assessment

The assessment for this course will be a Practice-based assessment (PBA). For further assessment details please contact the course lead.
