ABOUT
Explore the political, economic, societal and cultural factors and ideas shaping international politics in East Asia. You’ll be well prepared for a career in international relations and global policy.
Course description
This course explores key issues in international relations and global politics, with a particular focus on the East Asia region. You’ll learn about the major structures and ideas shaping international politics in East Asia such as changing power dynamics and regional identity.
The course is jointly run by the Department of Politics and International Relations and the School of East Asian Studies so you will be taught by leading experts from both departments.
Modules
The content of our courses is reviewed annually to make sure it’s up-to-date and relevant. Individual modules are occasionally updated or withdrawn. This is in response to discoveries through our world-leading research; funding changes; professional accreditation requirements; student or employer feedback; outcomes of reviews; and variations in staff or student numbers. In the event of any change we’ll consult and inform students in good time and take reasonable steps to minimise disruption. We are no longer offering unrestricted module choice. If your course included unrestricted modules, your department will provide a list of modules from their own and other subject areas that you can choose from.

Teaching
There are lectures and small group seminars.
Assessment
You’ll be assessed on a variety of Module Level Assessment pieces (MLA) and one Programme Level Assessment (PLA) each semester, which takes the form of a 3000 word essay. You’ll also be assessed on a year-long Graduate Project, under the supervision of specialist staff.

Knowledge and understanding of the politics, economic, societal and cultural factors shaping international politics in East Asia are highly valuable for careers within international relations and global policy specialising in East Asia and the Pacific region. The broad conceptual training you’ll receive will also prepare you for further studies at doctoral level in the fields of East Asia and Politics.
Entry requirements
You’ll need a good first degree in any subject. You would normally be expected to have a 2:1 from a university in the UK, or an equivalent qualification from an institution overseas. Applicants with other qualifications combined with relevant professional experience may also be eligible.
Overall IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
