ABOUT
Course description
If you want to study biosciences, but don’t meet the entry requirements, our foundation year course could be for you. For example, if you’ve studied the right subjects but haven’t achieved high enough grades, or have achieved good grades in unrelated subjects.
You’ll study life processes, from genes, cells and organs, to organisms and ecosystems. You’ll develop the skills that every bioscientist needs by studying modules in chemistry and mathematics, the principles that underpin the life sciences.
As you progress through your degree, you’ll have a chance to explore your core subjects in greater depth, choose optional modules across the biosciences to broaden your knowledge and participate in a research activity.
In your first and second year, you’ll spend six hours a week in our dedicated teaching labs, developing your practical science skills, including how to handle equipment, design experiments and interpret data. In your third year you’ll put your new skills into practice with a semester-long research project.
Moving to a different degree course is possible depending on your qualifications, usually in the first year of your degree.
Modules
After successfully completing the foundation year modules, you can start your main degree.
A selection of modules are available each year – some examples are below. There may be changes before you start your course.
The content of our courses is reviewed annually to make sure it’s up-to-date and relevant. Individual modules are occasionally updated or withdrawn. This is in response to discoveries through our world-leading research; funding changes; professional accreditation requirements; student or employer feedback; outcomes of reviews; and variations in staff or student numbers. In the event of any change we’ll consult and inform students in good time and take reasonable steps to minimise disruption. We are no longer offering unrestricted module choice. If your course included unrestricted modules, your department will provide a list of modules from their own and other subject areas that you can choose from.

accommodation
The international undergraduate and postgraduate students at this university can use different types of accommodation options and live in a safe and vibrant environment to focus entirely on their studies and get the best result, also the students can use the cafes and bars gyms, and other living facilities, on the other hand, they can have an accommodation tour and Sheffield city tour to become familiar with their living environment and make the most suitable decision, as we said, this university offers various accommodation options with different fees like £6,782.58 to £10,210.62 for a rental place in the city for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and they can choose to have a private or shared room.
After Graduation
The international students can work up to 20 hours in part-time jobs in the UK, however, they must refer to their visa to see whether they have study and work permits or not, we recommend you to focus only on your education to get the best results and be able to find the most suitable jobs in the UK or the global market right after graduation, on the other hand, if the international applicants need extra financial help to pay for their tuition fee, living, and study expenses, they can find part-time jobs under some conditions, also if the students find related jobs to their educational fields (with the help of the university), they will obtain more real experience and skills aside from the theoretical knowledge that they acquire during their study period.
