Introduction:
Today’s Paramedic is a highly skilled healthcare practitioner, who provides high quality urgent or emergency care to patients in a wide range of exciting, fast-paced and challenging environments. The Paramedic profession is at the forefront of the developing modern NHS, with paramedics extending their role in to an increasing range of new and exciting areas.
Upon successful completion of this 2-year MSc Programme, you’ll be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Paramedic.
What you’ll study
This course aims to provide a full-time, two-year route to achieving the MSc Paramedic Science by combining all the components required by paramedic registration in this unified programme of study that builds upon your undergraduate experience.
90 credits will be completed at each year at Level 7.
Careers and employability
After graduating from this MSc degree in Paramedic Science, you’ll be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. Your career prospects in this field are excellent because of the current high demand for registered paramedics in urgent and emergency care settings, locally, nationally and internationally.
Following the completion of your Newly Qualified Paramedic (NQP) programme in addition to the traditional roles of the Ambulance paramedic there are many other roles available to you as your experience grows.
These include but are not limited to:
- Advanced Paramedic (AP)/ Specialist Paramedic (SP) Specialising in Emergency Department, Prehospital or Primary care
- Critical care paramedic (CCP)
- Hazardous area response teams (HART)
- Urban Search and Rescue (USAR)
- Helicopter / Search and rescue
- Wilderness / Remote medical support
- Telephone triage /111 call advisors
- Event medics
- Primary care paramedic (GP or Community)
- Emergent or Urgent care (Hospital)
- Mental Health Specialist
Entry requirements
Applications to start this course in January 2022 are now open.
Please note: This course does not meet the UK Visas and Immigration requirements for Student Route sponsorship and therefore we cannot progress applications from candidates who require a Student Route visa under the Points Based Immigration System. Applicants to this course must be eligible to work in the UK for the duration of the course.
For this course, you need one of the following:
- 3 GCSE passes at grade C or grade 4 or above including Science, English and Maths.
- an undergraduate degree (minimum 2.2) in a human science or healthcare related subject, for example: human science, nursing, midwifery or an allied health profession
- Applicants holding non-human sciences undergraduate degree, will be considered if they are able to demonstrate subject specific knowledge from another source. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 150 hours of direct care experience. Relevant voluntary experience would be accepted as hours on a case by case basis. The direct patient contact experience must be gained prior to application
- NMC or HCPC registrants with conditions of practice are not eligible to apply for this course.

Tuition fees are payable for each year that you are at the University. The level of tuition fees for the second and subsequent years of your postgraduate course may increase in line with inflation and as specified by the UK government.
If you choose to study the two-year route of an eligible course, which incorporates a work placement, the fee for Year Two will be £1,385.
If you’re starting a postgraduate course in January 2023 you’ll pay the 2022 fee.
Late Applications
If you missed the UCAS January deadline, it’s not too late to apply to join us in September 2022.
Applying to university after the January deadline isn’t anything to worry about – we accept applications for most of our undergraduate courses until Thursday 30 June 2022.
If you apply after Thursday 30 June 2022, your application will automatically be entered into Clearing. Clearing opens on Tuesday 5 July 2022, but we recommend submitting your application as soon as possible.
