Our Online MA in International Relations helps you understand the complexities of international arenas. This flexible online degree will prepare you for a number of different careers, from government departments to international development agencies.
This degree is designed to develop global awareness, an understanding of the complexities of contemporary international arenas and theoretical debates and give you an understanding of how policies can address rapid change. Over the duration of the course, you will study the field of international relations and evaluate its theoretical frameworks, concepts, and methodologies, critique key debates and communicate complex ideas.
The course offers you the opportunity to take part in an exciting contemporary discussion that not only focuses on core theoretical understandings, but also on critical developments within this exciting field.
What you’ll study
The Online MA in International Relations is a modular course, completed over the course of two and a half years. It consists of 12 modules worth ten credits each, plus a dissertation worth 60 credits (total of 180 credits).
During this postgraduate course you’ll study modules specially designed to impart theoretical knowledge, research and writing skills.
The teaching team is truly international, and the course attracts students from across the world, which allows you to consider many different international viewpoints. The course offers a holistic learning experience through which you will gain an advanced and critical understanding of International Relations. In the private sector businesses such as think-tank organisations and not-for-profits are increasingly looking for graduates with an understanding of international / global events and processes.
Entry requirements
You will need an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK undergraduate honours degree (normally 2.2 or above).
Applicants without such qualifications will be considered on an individual basis but will be required to demonstrate how their experiences and knowledge would enable them to study this course at Masters level in their Personal Statement.
No references are normally required when applying for this course. However, two Letters of Recommendation will be required when an applicant’s qualifications are below the 2.2 degree standard.

Fees for 2022 entry.
Tuition fees are payable for each year that you are at the University. The level of tuition fees for the second and subsequent years of your postgraduate course may increase in line with inflation and as specified by the UK government.
If you choose to study the two-year route of an eligible course, which incorporates a work placement, the fee for Year Two will be £1,385.
If you’re starting a postgraduate course in January 2023 you’ll pay the 2022 fee.
Late Applications
If you missed the UCAS January deadline, it’s not too late to apply to join us in September 2022.
Applying to university after the January deadline isn’t anything to worry about – we accept applications for most of our undergraduate courses until Thursday 30 June 2022.
If you apply after Thursday 30 June 2022, your application will automatically be entered into Clearing. Clearing opens on Tuesday 5 July 2022, but we recommend submitting your application as soon as possible.
