ABOUT
Introduction:
Property development and planning is fundamental to the growth of the property industry – from scheme proposal, site identification and analysis, through to design, viability, finance and marketing. Our course has been developed to enable you to focus on adding value to land and property, as an adviser, consultant or developer of the future.
You’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of areas including spatial and urban design, site appraisal, sustainability, planning and development consultancy and management of the development process. Alongside more more specialist and technical knowledge you’ll focus on business planning, client care and negotiation and develop the core surveying competencies required in industry.
What you’ll study
This course equips you to oversee the entire development process, from site identification and analysis, design, viability and finance; through the planning system; and ultimately to the delivery of a development scheme.

Becoming Chartered with the RICS
The RICS accreditation enables you to progress to Chartered Surveyor status once you have completed your studies. To become a Chartered Surveyor, you’ll need to complete at least two years of relevant professional work experience – the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). If you undertake a sandwich placement, this will normally count as the first year of your professional work experience (only for RICS), however at least 12 months of study must take place on a graduate training scheme.
This course is designed to prepare you for future employment in a number of the RICS APC pathways, which could include:
- Planning and Development
- Commercial Real Estate
- Residential
- Valuation.

Entry requirements
For this course, you will need one of the following:
- A-levels – BBB; or
- BTEC Extended Diploma – DDM; or
- 120 UCAS Tariff points from three A-levels or equivalent qualifications
and
- GCSEs – English and Maths grade C / 4.
Fees and funding
International fees for 2022 entry onto a full-time undergraduate course are:
- £15,600, or
- £16,200 (for courses in the Nottingham School of Art & Design and Nottingham Business School).
Tuition fees are payable for each year that you are at University. Tuition fees for the second and subsequent years of your undergraduate course may increase in line with inflation and as specified by the UK government.
If you choose to do a work placement as part of the undergraduate course the fee for the work placement will be £1,385.
Late Applications
If you missed the UCAS January deadline, it’s not too late to apply to join us in September 2022.
Applying to university after the January deadline isn’t anything to worry about – we accept applications for most of our undergraduate courses until Thursday 30 June 2022.
If you apply after Thursday 30 June 2022, your application will automatically be entered into Clearing. Clearing opens on Tuesday 5 July 2022, but we recommend submitting your application as soon as possible.
