Studying master’s in English Language and Literature at Linnaeus University in Sweden:
This is a two-year programme at the second level with English as its main field of study. You can choose to specialise in linguistics or literature, or a combination of these.
Several of the courses in the programme combine linguistics and literature. The aim is for you to develop knowledge of relevant, modern linguistic and literary theories and methods, primarily within the fields included in the research centres at the faculty, such as the postcolonial and intermedial research centres, as well as multicultural communication and text mining in Data Intensive Digital Humanities.

Curriculum:
After the first semester, you can choose courses in either linguistics or literature, or combine both fields. During the third semester, you have the opportunity to study abroad at one on Linnaeus University’s partner universities, or to conduct an internship abroad. If you choose not to go abroad, you will study in Sweden with international students in the programme. You write your Master’s thesis in the fourth semester.

Application Requirements:
- You must have been awarded a Bachelor’s degree (equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen) from an internationally recognised university.
- Be able to demonstrate proficiency in English. For most master’s level courses and programmes, the requirement is also the equivalent of the Swedish upper secondary course English 6. There are some master’s level courses and programmes where English 5 or English 7 is the requirement.
- You must provide certificates and diplomas of your completed degree(s) from an internationally recognised higher education institution.
- Transcripts of completed courses and grades for each semester included in your degree. If you have had courses credited/transferred from previous studies, you must also submit official transcripts for those courses.
- Copy of the page in your passport with your personal data and photograph, or a similar identification document.
- You must upload your documentation both in the original language and in an official translation. Accepted languages for translations are Swedish and English.
General entry requirements for second level studies and specific entry requirements for this program:
- 90 credits in English Linguistics or English Literature, or some other relevant field within language or literature.
- English 7 or the equivalent.
