Studying ELE Basic program at Guiu Academy in Spain:
The Basic Spanish as a foreign language course is designed for students who start at a non-existent basic level or less than A2.
The objective of the courses is to achieve the objectives of the different communicative activities (oral and written expression, oral and written comprehension, oral and written interaction, and oral and written mediation), thus covering all aspects of the Spanish language pronunciation, grammar, conversation, analysis, comprehension and commentary of texts, essays, written expression in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference.

Curriculum:
The content is broad and addresses the different components (pragmatic-discursive, grammatical, lexical-semantic, cultural, socio-cultural and learning), organized and sequenced according to the pedagogical criteria and specific purposes of their courses (preparation for access to Spanish University), in tasks or learning units, using the communicative method by tasks, emphasizing a reflective practice.
The evaluation is continued. The teacher monitors the students’ activities and corrects them privately and the activities are also shared in open class when the solution is unique.
Career opportunity:
The student will reach a B1 or B2 level depending on their initial level (A1 or A2).
Application Requirements:
Applicants of the Guiu academy are compelled to have a high school certificate and they need to send an official and translated transcript of the grades of the final three years of their high school. Furthermore, they are obliged to send in a passport copy and a completed registration form.
English language requirements:
The entry exam is held in Spanish, as a result, the preparatory courses are also offered in Spanish. Accordingly, students are required to be fluent in Spanish in order to fully grasp the concepts that are discussed in the classroom. Students must be at least at level A1 in Spanish. Those who do not meet the required criteria, have the opportunity to take part in Spanish language classes that are offered by the academy in order to reach the necessary level.

Students are presented with three different options they can choose based on their needs, desires and budgets. Students who wish to experience living in a community can choose academy residences that are fully equipped with WIFI, parking, gym and electricity. Furthermore, students are offered meals during their stay, which is between 6 to 12 months. By choosing this option, students can reside in a fully secure environment that gives them a fresh perspective about the Spanish culture and language as well as the customs of other countries. There are different types of rooms; shared, double and for those who prefer a more private stay, single. However, most of the bathrooms are shared between students. the cost of this type of residence varies based on the type of room students choose the level of privacy they desire and the amenities they wish to use. The monthly cost can range from € 700 to € 1200. Needless to say, students are required to follow somewhat firm rules regarding smoking, alcohol consumption and in some cases closing times of the dorms.
Students can also share a flat with other students and people. This is particularly ideal for those who wish to live with their family, wish to live with their own group of friends or those who have a limited budget, since this option is by far the most affordable of the three. Renting a room with flat mates may cost approximately € 400 a month. However, it must be mentioned that some of the flats may lack some amenities like internet and heat. Also, students are obliged to follow some common rules that have been laid out by the other residents of the flat.
Finally, students who value their privacy and independence above anything else, can solely take residence in rented flats. The monthly cost of this option can be nearly € 750. This way students can live by their own rules in their own personal space. However, they are obligated to follow the rules that are required for residing in the flat, which are mostly about smoking, drugs and alcohol. Students can experience a fully independent lifestyle and be in charge of their own affairs. They are required to do their own chores such as shopping, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and generally maintaining a house. It must be mentioned that those who choose this option must reside in the flats for at least six months, not less.
After Graduation
The most important objective of this college is to prepare students for entering reputable and well-known universities in Spain. As a result, the staff members and counsellors guide and help students throughout the whole process. About 90 percent of the graduates of this college have ended up achieving what they were aiming for during the course of their education.
