Curriculum:

This master’s course is for candidates interested in occupying management positions within the art world. It provides advanced know-how and valuable insights into the contemporary arts system, the art market, and the business of art in today’s world, looking in particular at cultural establishments including museums, commercial galleries, art foundations, auction houses and art

fairs with an accent on fashion, art and design industries and brands. In particular the course will take advantage of the historic sites of the cradle of the Renaissance; Florence, with its world-renowned rich artistic and cultural heritage.

Students will learn how to manage and market art events and corporate heritage projects, taking into consideration international art laws, together with analyses of the different areas of the art economy, ranging from administration and marketing. Participants will get to know the roles of different players within the art system – museum managers, art dealers, gallery directors, curators, registrars, appraisers, auction house specialists, restorers etc., and will also investigate the relevance of corporate heritage, acquiring the ability to build on the ever increasing connections between arts, companies and brands. They will learn the basics of fundraising for the sector, and understand how to develop and manage art-related events and exhibitions, including public relations, through individual and group projects. The whole course has a strong cultural perspective thanks to a programme of cultural studies and an intense calendar of field trips in both Florence and the surrounding regions; museums, galleries, exhibitions, sculpture parks, art institutions and corporate museums/archives.

The purpose of the Istituto Marangoni Career service is to bridge the gap between course completion and entering the world of work. Monitoring, guidance and counselling activities are organised throughout the academic year. The careers service organises various activities including seminars and round table discussions with fashion professionals, HR managers and head-hunter agencies on specific topics such as future career paths, personal research methods and job profiles. Individual meetings are also arranged to assist with CV preparation, revise portfolios and encourage students to talk about their career goals and expectations.

three years degree or equivalent;
the applicant’s qualifications;
the information given in supporting academic references;
the applicant’s personal statement.

The Admissions Manager coordinates and supports the subject specific Programme Leader and the Director of Education in dealing with interviews and portfolio assessments (where appropriate).(Admission requirements are subject to change in order to comply with entry requirement regulations).

Candidates must have a sufficient command of the English or the chosen language of the course to be able to meet the requirements of the programme in every respect.
