This dynamic short course explores the influence and impact of art on fashion and luxury. Participants will gain a real understanding of the influence and ‘power’ that art has always exercised on style and the way we dress. Designers have, in fact, consistently fed their imagination with stimuli from art. Meanwhile, it is also true that today the fashion industry is the most important supporter and promoter of contemporary art. Participants will question both worlds – art and fashion – in order to evaluate, improve and integrate the intrinsic characteristics of fashion design, fashion image and style, and encourage further dialogue with art and the various arts, in the fast paced, ever creative fashion industry.

Curriculum:

Week 1

Participants investigate the complex and fruitful relationship between art and fashion through a fascinating journey over the centuries, from the Renaissance up to the present day and with a view to the advent of metaverse and NFT collectibles, aimed at captivating examples of collaboration -through exhibitions, installations, the use of perfomative arts and events- between designers and artists and fueling their inspiration. They will be encouraged to demolish disciplinary boundaries and industry conventions.

Week 2

Participants keep on investigating the creative processes that characterize each of the two systems, passing through the development and production of a project sitting on the fence between fashion and art, being it a collection, an NFT or a perfomative fashion show. The week will conclude with an illustrated presentation of a creative project proposal, supported by a concept, research materials, development including for example illustration, colour charts, photos or mock ups.

English language requirements:

Most fashion short courses require applicants to have a good command of English language skills in order to be able to understand and participate in lectures and tutorials effectively and to produce written assignments to a high standard. Depending on the institution offering the course, applicants may need to provide evidence that they meet certain English language requirements such as passing an English language test such as IELTS or TOEFL with a minimum score or providing evidence that they have studied at an institution where English was the language of instruction for at least one year prior to applying for the course
