The International Foundation Medicine Course – Health Science programme is a specialised foundation course designed to support international students to progress to studying Medicine or Dentistry.
If you are interested in studying Medicine or Dentistry, but lack the entry requirements or have completed O Levels, this is an alternative route to entry. This programme is designed to prepare international students for entry to Medicine or Dentistry degrees.

Duration: 9 months (September intake) or 7 months (January intake)
Fees: €17,800 plus registration (€2,000 scholarship available for September 2023)
Curriculum:
During their studies, students on the IFY Health Science programme will cover four main academic subjects – English for Academic Purposes, Mathematics for Science, Chemistry and Biology. Alongside these subjects, students will also gain key skills, such as:
- Critical thinking
- Problem solving
- Time management
- Presentation skills
- Academic writing
- ICT skills
Academic Subject modules are:
- Mathematics for Science
- Chemistry
- Biology

Admission requirement:
The International Foundation Medicine Course -Health Science programme is specifically designed for international students who:
- Have completed their local high school qualification (or O-Level qualification). This institute accepts SPM, WAEC, IGCSEs and a range of local high school qualifications
- Have completed A-Levels or equivalent, but do not meet the entry requirements for university admission
- Volunteering or work shadowing experience is an advantage
English language requirement:
Students who need to improve their English language before studying university in Ireland or UK. Overall, applicants must have at least IELTS 5.5

DIFC is located on Griffith College campus which has on-campus accommodation provided by Griffith Halls of Residence (GHR). It is a very safe and secure option for international students. And, for DIFC students, you will literally be a 2-minute walk from your classes.
GHR offers both shared and private ensuite rooms with twin share rooms from approximately €7,000 for the academic year. Private rooms are just under €12,000 for the academic year. Accommodation is on a self-catering basis, but includes basic utilities and WiFi for students. Also there are some off-campus accommodation options for all applicants.
After Graduation
DIFC students are not permitted to work during their foundation studies; however, if you progress to undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Ireland, you will be allowed to work part-time up to 20 hours per week during school term and 40 hours per week during holidays. There are some exceptions to this, so if you are considering working during your studies, you must check with the DIFC consultants first.
