Curriculum:
The practical side of the program focuses on writing, editing, interviewing, taking photographs, and working with new technology to produce print and online publications. The theory side of the program emphasizes media law, journalistic ethics, decision-making, and critical thinking.
You will study a variety of technical communications used to document professional activity, including proposals, technical and formal reports, policies and procedures, technical descriptions and definitions, and instructions. Become familiar with and produce advanced multimedia and online news presentation techniques. Develop the skills and knowledge required for online journalism.

Entry requirements:
- Applicants are required to meet minimum English language proficiency requirements for direct entry into academic programs.
- Admission requirements vary, but all TRU programs require secondary school completion for academic admission.
- Students must be at least 17 years old.
Application documents:
When applying to a program, scanned copies of original/official transcripts (or certified copies) of secondary school grades and any post-secondary institutions you have attended must be included with the application.
English language requirements:
- Students take an English Placement Test (EPT) upon arrival and are placed in the appropriate level of English language study in TRU’s EAP program. The EPT must be written one week before classes begin. If a student has a TOEFL or other test score they may elect to enter EAP or academic courses without taking the TRU English Placement Test.
- TRU is currently accepting Duolingo as proof of English Proficiency Requirements and is applicable to applications received before August 31, 2023.

The Homestay Program affords students the opportunity to reside alongside Canadian families, immersing themselves in Canadian culture and traditions. This institution regards post-school interaction with the host family as the optimal method for enhancing English language acquisition. The host family assumes a pivotal role in assisting the student in acclimating to life in Canada, striving to integrate the student into the familial sphere to the greatest extent possible.
In certain instances, multiple international students may be accommodated within each homestay family. When multiple students are placed in a single family, they typically hail from two distinct countries. The family extends accommodation comprising a private, furnished bedroom, three daily meals, and snacks to each student. Students can anticipate commuting approximately 20-45 minutes between their homestay and the TRU campus.
- Apartment: $150 processing non-refundable fee once you apply for homestay
- $500 homestay damage deposit – refundable as long as no damage occurs and proper notice given. Both mentioned fees are due upon the application.
After Graduation
International students possess the privilege of engaging in employment both on-campus and off-campus while pursuing full-time studies. Upon completion of their studies, they become eligible for a full-time work permit. During their academic tenure, they are permitted to work a maximum of 20 hours per week, with the flexibility to work full-time during scheduled breaks.
