Application Requirements:
- Transcripts: Applicants must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
- Letters of Recommendation: Typically, three letters of recommendation are required from individuals familiar with the applicant’s academic and/or professional abilities.
- Statement of Purpose: Applicants must provide a statement of purpose outlining their research interests and career goals, as well as their reasons for pursuing the PhD program at Concordia University.
- Resume/CV: A current CV or resume should be submitted, outlining the applicant’s academic and professional experiences, publications (if any), and research or industry involvement.
- Research Proposal: Applicants must submit a research proposal outlining their proposed research topic and methodology. The research proposal should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to conduct original research in the field of civil engineering.
Admission on a full-time basis
- Master’s degree or equivalent with high standing in engineering or computer science, or in a cognate discipline.
- Holders of a bachelor’s degree will, in general, be considered for admission to a master’s program only. After completion of a minimum of one term of full-time study in the Master’s degree, they may, upon application, be recommended by the Department and approved by the GCS Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies for admission to a PhD program.
Admission on a part-time basis
- Master’s degree with high standing in engineering, computer science or a cognate discipline.
English language requirements:
• Applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose primary language is not English, will be required to provide proof of English proficiency scores prior to their admission to Concordia University. Test results that are more than two years old at the time of application will not be accepted.
• English second language (ESL) course requirement: The Department of Education offers ESL courses to non-native speakers of English who are accepted by Concordia University but who must upgrade their reading and writing skills.
• In all cases, the University reserves the right to require an English language proficiency test if it is deemed necessary.
