Studying in the Master of Communication Science program at the university of Vienna:
The English-language master’s programme in Communication Science aims at providing students with the necessary competences for dealing with current, socially relevant research issues in the field of communication science. They are able to use state-of-the-art research methods on an internationally transferable level. In addition, they are able to operate internationally as decision-makers in the area of communication, especially in private research. The master’s programme focuses on the contexts, contents and impact/consequences of communication processes on a micro, meso and macro level. Students must have English skills corresponding to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Curriculum:
The degree programme comprises compulsory modules (Introduction to Communication Theory and Research; Introduction to Communication Research Methods; Advanced Data Analysis; Research Projects 1; Research Projects 2), a master’s thesis and a master’s examination.The Doing Data Science, Ethical and Legal Issues group of compulsory modules combines the compulsory modules that students of the master’s programmes in Data Science, Digital Humanities and Business Analytics have to complete and/or that are offered in a similar form in all three master’s programmes.
Career opportunity:
The master’s programme qualifies students for research-oriented activities, especially in the following occupational fields:
- leading PhD programmes in communication science worldwide
- opinion, market and survey research
- media research (e.g. agencies, publishers, broadcasting companies)
- media and communication consulting
- media and communication management.
